The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department encourages community members to share any legitimate concerns about our personnel or practices. We are committed to thoroughly investigating all complaints to maintain the integrity of our department, protect our employees, and ensure continued public trust.

If you wish to file a complaint about an employee’s conduct, you may do so by contacting the department directly. A supervisor will be available to speak with you, or you may submit a written account of your concern to the appropriate supervisor. All complaints involving the practices and personnel of the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department will be thoroughly investigated. Once your complaint is received, an investigation will be initiated.

If you are uncomfortable filing a complaint directly with a member of our department, you may contact the Hobart-Lawrence Police Commission here.

To assist in the process, you may be asked to provide a written statement describing the employee’s conduct. In addition, you may be subpoenaed and required to testify under oath in a civil or criminal proceeding, as the employee involved may be subject to discipline by the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department and/or prosecuted for violations of the law.

Finally, malicious and deliberate false accusations are occasionally made against the agency or its employees. Knowingly filing a false report of misconduct against a law enforcement officer is a violation of the law and is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 pursuant to § 946.66 Wis. Stats.
